How will the Kellner Family Athletic Center impact Wisconsin Athletics and Badger student-athletes?

This first-class facility will provide new spaces for student-athletes across all 23 sports to train at the highest level. The building will house a 120-yard indoor turf field, strength and conditioning center, 305-meter training track, student-athlete dining hall, sports medicine center, locker rooms, coaching offices, team meeting rooms and student-athlete well-being spaces. This facility will be adjacent to the Stephen M. Bennett Athletic Performance Center where student-athletes receive academic advising, tutoring, career services, mental health services and preparation for life after sports upon graduation.

How many and which sports will utilize the Kellner Family Athletic Center?

All 23 sports programs will have access to the new facility to train and prepare to compete at the highest level in an environment that aligns with the high-performance standards set by our coaching staffs. This facility represents a strategic investment in the holistic success of our student-athletes, supporting both competitive excellence and personal well-being.

This facility's features include:

Sports that will see some of the largest utilization rates include but are not limited to: Football, Men's and Women's Track & Field / Cross Country, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball.

How does this project impact Men's and Women's Track & Field / Cross Country?

"The Shell," which opened in 1954 and served as the home of Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field, is being replaced by the Kellner Family Athletic Center at the same site. This new facility represents a significant upgrade in training infrastructure for Badger student-athletes.

The Kellner Family Athletic Center will feature a 305-meter oversized Mondo track for training purposes and will provide training spaces for all track event groups including, distance, sprints, throws, horizontal and vertical jumps.

Time management is of utmost importance for student-athletes. The Kellner Family Athletic Center provides a significant advantage by allowing student-athletes to train on campus year-round and to prioritize Badger student-athletes' academic and athletic schedules. The facility will allow coaches to run more efficient practices with greater flexibility for individualized and small group coaching. Enhanced time management for student-athletes and coaches directly contributes to improved performance, recovery, and overall well-being.
